The modern entrance to the Fira de Barcelona during Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2025

Have you ever wondered where the future of home technology is shaped? Or where the latest innovations in smart homes, AV systems, and integrated technology are unveiled? The answer is Integrated Systems Europe, or ISE. It’s the world’s leading trade show for the professional AV and systems integration industry. I had the pleasure of attending the last ISE event in Barcelona; therefore, I can tell you it’s an unmissable experience for anyone serious about the industry.

The History and Meteoric Growth of ISE

To understand the show today, it’s worth looking at its incredible journey. The first ISE took place in Geneva in 2004. It was a modest affair with just 120 exhibitors and around 3,500 attendees, focusing mainly on the residential market. Even then, however, the founders saw the potential for a new event that catered to the evolving AV industry.

Soon after, the show moved to the RAI in Amsterdam, its home for the next 15 years. It was here that ISE truly came into its own, growing at an astonishing rate. Year after year, it broke its own records for exhibitor numbers and visitor attendance. As a result, it expanded from a residential focus to become the essential global event for professionals. Now it covers all segments of the AV and systems integration world. This meteoric rise proves the show’s importance in driving the industry forward.

What is Integrated Systems Europe (ISE)?

Integrated Systems Europe is the largest and most-attended trade show of its kind. It’s an annual four-day event bringing together manufacturers, distributors, integrators, and end-users. These professionals come from across the globe to see the latest in AV and electronic systems. A joint venture between AVIXA and CEDIA, Integrated Systems Events organizes the show. In fact, these are the two leading industry associations for the global audiovisual industry. For this reason, ISE is the ultimate destination for seeing innovation, learning, and networking.

The Journey to Barcelona: A Strategic Move for Growth

For many years, ISE was synonymous with Amsterdam. So, why did it move to Barcelona in 2021? The reason is simple: growth. In short, the show was becoming a victim of its own success. With a consistent annual growth rate of over 10%, ISE had physically outgrown the RAI Amsterdam, even with temporary halls. The corridors were crowded, and there was a waiting list for new exhibitors.

Consequently, the organisers knew a change was necessary for the event’s long-term development. They did not take the selection of a new host city lightly. After extensive research into major exhibition venues across Europe, they chose Barcelona. The Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Vía venue is one of Europe’s largest and most modern convention centres. Specifically, it offers the floor space and facilities needed for ISE’s continued expansion. Furthermore, Barcelona’s status as a vibrant international hub for business, tourism, and technology made it the perfect new home.

What to Expect at ISE: A Deeper Dive

ISE is more than just a trade show floor; indeed, it’s a vibrant hub for innovation and education. The event is structured into dedicated Technology Zones. This design makes it easier for attendees to navigate the massive show and find the solutions they need.

Here’s a look at some of the key zones:

  • Residential & Smart Building (Halls 1 & 2): This is the heartland for home technology. Here, you’ll find everything from lighting control and smart security to home cinema and energy management. The biggest names in the business also feature their integrated control systems.
  • Unified Communications & Education Technology (Halls 1 & 2): This zone focuses on tools for collaboration. For instance, you’ll see the latest in video conferencing and interactive displays for boardrooms and classrooms. It also showcases technologies shaping the future of remote work and hybrid learning.
  • Multi-Technology (Halls 3, 5 & 8.1): In these halls, you’ll find many industry giants like Samsung, LG, and Crestron. Their extensive product ranges span multiple categories. For that reason, it’s a must-see for a comprehensive overview of the market’s direction.
  • Digital Signage & DooH (Hall 4): This is one of the fastest-growing sectors at ISE. This zone showcases the latest in displays, media players, and software. Professionals use these for advertising, information delivery, and creating engaging public spaces.
  • Lighting & Staging (Halls 6 & 8.1): This zone is a spectacle of light and sound. It features everything needed for live events, from rigging and staging equipment to stunning lighting controls, video mapping, and holographic displays.

My Experience at ISE Barcelona

Attending ISE in Barcelona was an incredible experience. The energy on the show floor was palpable. Beyond the groundbreaking products, what truly stood out for me were the hands-on learning opportunities.

A personal highlight, for example, was participating in the Crestron Home Programming Challenge, which Crestron organised. It was a fantastic way to put my skills to the test. In addition, I also took part in a crucial Fibre Termination Training session that CEDIA organised. Getting practical, certified training like this is invaluable in an industry that relies on high-speed connectivity. Ultimately, these experiences, combined with networking with some of the brightest minds in the industry, made the trip truly worthwhile.
